National Burrito Day is Thursday, and restaurants nationwide are celebrating with burrito BOGOs and discounts. Burritos have become deeply embedded in American food culture. From cafes selling quick, on-the-go egg-filled burritos to chefs getting creative with fusion concepts (sushi-burritos, bulgogi-filled burritos, etc.), the dish has become a commonplace meal.
So it might be a surprise that the burrito is a relatively new food concept, likely invented in Northern Mexico in the 1910s or 1920s. Unlike tacos, burritos are made with wheat tortillas, which are more pliable and better hold the filling. But it wasn’t until the 1960s when the burrito truly made its mark on the U.S. food scene with the invention of San Francisco’s Mission Burrito, a style characterized by its massive size, abundance of toppings and foil wrapping.
When is National Burrito Day?
While it’s not clear when the first National Burrito Day emerged, the food holiday is now annually celebrated on the first Thursday of April. Many restaurants offer burrito deals in celebration, so we’ve rounded up a list of 13 epic BOGOs and discounts you can get on April 2.

California Tortilla
The East Coast chain is celebrating National Burrito Day with a $10 reward. Buy any burrito on Thursday and receive a $10 reward to use for a future visit.
Chronic Tacos
The California-based Mexican chain is giving loyalty members a buy-one-get-one-free burrito deal via the Chronic Tacos app on Thursday.
Del Taco
Place an order of at least $3 through Del Taco’s rewards app or website and receive a free classic burrito on Thursday.
Dog Haus
The California-based gourmet hot dog chain is giving its rewards members a $3 Haus Burrito (three sunny-side-up eggs, smoked bacon, white American cheese, crispy tater tots, caramelized onions and spicy mayo, wrapped in a flour tortilla and grilled) on Thursday. All proceeds from the $3 Haus Burrito will be donated to No Kid Hungry, a national campaign dedicated to ending childhood hunger nationwide.
Anyone who redeems the $3 burrito will automatically receive a BOGO reward for Dog Haus’ Bad-Ass Breakfast Burritos, valid through April 30.
El Pollo Loco
El Pollo Loco is offering a buy one, get one free deal on burritos at all store locations on Thursday.
Farmer Boys
Farmer Boys rewards members (known as VIF, or Very important Farmer) can buy a breakfast burrito for half price with the purchase of another at regular price via the Farmer Boys app on Thursday.
Hot Head Burritos
The Midwestern chain is giving its rewards members a free burrito through an online BOGO deal on Thursday.
Moe’s Southwest Grill
Moe’s is celebrating National Burrito Day with a BOGO deal on burritos, bowls and Moe Value Meals all day in-store.
