Dolly Parton’s ‘Cup of Ambition’ coffee line makes posthumous debut
The woman who made “9 to 5” an anthem for tired people everywhere has finally given us an antidote to our sleepies. Dolly Parton’s Cup of Ambition coffee, first released at Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop in June, is now available nationwide, so anyone can start their day Dolly-style. You will have to supply your own rhinestones, though.
The coffee line launched on Sept. 29 — National Coffee Day — in partnership with Community Coffee, a family-owned Louisiana company that has been roasting coffee since 1919. The nationwide debut also comes just over a month after Parton died on Aug. 25 at 80 years old.

But Cup of Ambition was still very much Dolly’s project. “I thought the Cup of Ambition would be a fantastic name for a coffee brand,” she said in June, adding that she had been working toward it for more than 40 years. “This is just one of those dreams that’s taken a little longer than I thought it might, but we’ve got it and it’s working.”
The coffee takes its name, of course, from Parton’s 1980 hit “9 to 5.” Parton worked with Community Coffee to select the blends, which include light and medium roasts.
The Cup of Ambition Light Roast features tasting notes of vanilla, stone fruit and cocoa nib, and can be brewed by drip, pour-over, French press, percolator or cold brew.
Cup of Ambition Medium Roast is a little richer, but still smooth enough for everyday drinking, with flavors of milk chocolate, berry and caramel.
Before her death, Parton filmed a series of commercials to promote the coffee line. Naturally, they show her getting ready with a cup of ambition and plenty of glam.
It’s not like we needed any more reason to try this coffee, but in case anyone is on the fence, every purchase helps support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Parton’s literacy program that provides free books to young children. Community Coffee is also becoming the program’s anchor funding partner in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana.
