Del Taco makes slight – but significant – change in their burritos

Del Taco has made a small but significant change to their burritos.

The fast-food franchise is now leaving one burrito end open, as opposed to folding both ends.

A few months ago, Del Taco started folding both ends of their classic burritos, a small shift that customers noticed right away – and didn’t like.

One Reddit post on the Del Taco thread from Oct. 16, 2025 titled “Folding the burritos weird?” expressed confusion: “I’m in Southern CA and frequent Del Taco often. I’ve been going my whole life and they’ve always only ever folded one end of the burrito. The last two times I’ve been to Del Taco (two different locations) they’ve folded in both sides. Is this a new thing?!”

Other Redditors, in the comments, answered with claims that the new burritos were bigger – something the franchise announced in August 2025 – and the reason for the double fold was so that the enlarged burrito wouldn’t be as messy.

There was at least one user who posited that their burrito appeared to be the same size. Another said his local Del Taco was still leaving one end open – a “rogue franchise.”

Another post from earlier in the year on the Facebook page “Long Beach Food Scene” asked the same question as the Redditor; however, the user who published the post admitted to liking the new closed burrito better.

Regardless of your preference – the debate has officially been settled as of Tuesday.

In a social media post, Del Taco admitted they were “trying to be ‘neat’ by folding both ends of our Classic Burritos.”

“Instead, we gave you a first bite of plain tortilla, followed by a blast of beans, and then you needed a search party just to find the cheese,” the franchise admitted. “So we’re going #BackToDel.”

Apparently, #BackToDel means that the burritos at Del Taco are now served with one folded side.

“No more structural failures,” the post read. “Just the glorious flavor of a real Del Taco Classic Burrito.”

“Thanks for calling us out,” the post concluded.

Del Taco also announced they renamed the Classic Burritos: the Beef & Cheddar is now “Del Beef,” the Grilled Chicken is now “Del Classic Chicken” and the Combo Beef & Bean is now “Del Combo.”
