Super Bowl LX attendees can order a $180 burger. What’s in it?

(NEXSTAR) – If you’re going to let a burger bankrupt you, this one seems as good as any.

A list of the food offerings available at Levi’s Stadium during Sunday’s Super Bowl was revealed earlier this week, with many items paying tribute to the signature dishes of California’s Bay Area. But among the offerings — which include Dungeness Crab Potachos, Gilroy Garlic Steak Frites and a Chinatown Dog — is a dish that seems to stand out from the rest, both in terms of size and pricing: the $180 LX Hammer Burger.

Far and away the most expensive of the dishes previewed this week, the LX Hammer Burger weighs a whopping 3.5 pounds and is intended to serve four people, according to a representative for Levy, the official hospitality team of Levi’s Stadium.

Billed as a “shareable spin” on a cheeseburger, the LX Hammer Burger isn’t as much of a traditional “burger” as it is a gargantuan beef sandwich. Rather than a ground beef patty, the burger features “fall-off-the-bone tender braised bone-in beef shank, roasted mirepoix demi-glace, and Point Reyes bleu cheese fondue on house baked brioche bun,” according to Levy.

Eagle-eyed foodies will also notice that the “bone” part of the bone-in beef shank is still very much present in the finished sandwich, accommodated via a hole in the top bun.

“We do a lot of cool stuff you don’t typically see in a stadium,” Lou Bastian, the senior vice president of culinary at Levy, told Forbes this week, adding that the LX Burger or the $35 Gilroy Garlic Steak Frites were his picks for the star of the menu.

Esther Mobley, the senior wine critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, meanwhile, named the LX Hammer Burger one of the clear standouts.

“This is the winner, for sure,” Mobley said after sampling the LX Hammer (albeit a smaller version).

Attendees seeking something (somewhat) lighter can also find several other signature food items at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, including the $40 Dungeness Crab Potachos (Dungeness crab layered with potato chips and fondue sauce), a $30 “Super Shucker” Hog Island Oyster Sampler (a half-dozen local oysters with mignonette), or a $30 San Fran Sticky Roll (a sourdough cinnamon roll with white chocolate mascarpone crème anglaise and a spun sugar topping), among over a dozen drinks and dishes.

“We have seven or eight knock-your-socks-off items that are going to blow your mind,” Bastian said in a featurette about the menu. “And that’s just really the tip of the iceberg.”
