This weekend, the wholesale retailer stocked its shelves with a gimmicky 5.5-pound (88.18-ounce), Frankenstein-inspired Belgian chocolate monster head filled with body-part-shaped gummies. There’s also a miniature wooden mallet included in the package, because, of course, there is. It’s basically the most disturbing (hopefully delicious) piñata you’ve ever seen.

Shoppers are divided over the $55 price tag
As soon as the giant chocolate head hit store shelves, Costco shoppers hopped on their social media channel du jour to show off the smashable monster and complain about the price. According to multiple store sightings, the item costs $54.99 in-warehouse, though Costco lists it online for $63.55. Either way, that’s a lot of dough to spend on something that’s meant to be demolished with a hammer in five seconds.
As always, internet commenters immediately split into two camps. On one side, folks argued that it’s a fun novelty item made for Halloween parties and worth every penny for the entertainment value alone. On the other side? Sticker shock.
“It can stay at the store for that price,” one user commented under a viral @costcobuys Instagram post featuring the treat.
“Everyone saying $55 is crazy, but a 5lb bag of decent chocolate used for tempering chocolate to make things like this currently costs $ 50-$70 right now, depending on the brand and what state you’re in. $55 is actually not that bad,” countered another shopper.
