Fast-foodies have long embraced combo meals featuring cheeseburgers and sodas, but rarely do they choose to slurp both down items in the same soppy, sloppy bite.
That started to change a few weeks ago.
Apparently inspired by a content creator called @TheAngelFoodie, several prominent food reviewers are dipping their McDonald’s cheeseburgers into Coca-Cola before taking a bite, essentially allowing their tastebuds to experience the sweet, soggy sensation that otherwise occurs inside their gurgling innards.
“It lowkey works,” food reviewer Joe Oh, of JoeOhEats, said in a recent viral TikTok video. He also claimed the sweetness from the Coke “enhances” the cheese.
“It kind of elevates the flavor. It kind of elevates the taste of everything,” he said.

A couple of Oh’s fellow food bloggers shared similar sentiments. One reviewer who tried the “hack” scored it an 8.2 out of 10, while another said the “flavors just work together so well.”
“This isn’t even rage-bait,” the latter claimed, genuinely seeming to enjoy his soppy-wet sandwich.
A least a few food personalities disagreed, including @ReuBekahVids, who could barely get a bite down. And @LilMushOutside said the flavors aren’t exactly “terrible” together, but found the taste to be “weird.”
“I won’t be doing it again,” he said.
Commenters weren’t exactly convinced either. One person thought the idea sounded “utterly disgusting,” and another called the meal a “diabetes speedrun.” Others theorized that the TikTokkers were simply running out of ideas.
TheAngelFoodie, who took credit for the idea, responded to skeptics by saying she’s been eating her McDonald’s burgers in this manner for “over a decade.” She also said she’s hearing positive reviews of the “hack” from her followers.
“Everyone actually likes it,” she claimed.

TheAngelFoodie, however, might not be the first to tout the questionable joys of soda-soaked food. Back in 2018, a U.S. Open attendee went viral after ESPN’s cameras captured her dunking a chicken tender into a cup of soda. That woman, later identified as Alexa Greenfield, told Sports Illustrated she had been eating her chicken like that since she was a child, though she slowed down as an adult.
“Listen, it’s not something I do often anymore,” Greenfield said, adding that she did it partly to “mess” with her nephews, who had accompanied her to the tournament.
“I was like, ‘Listen guys, this is gross, watch me do it,’” she told SI. “It’s not that common, but [I do it] maybe like once or twice a year.”
