A ranch milkshake with a bunch of toppings is coming to Great Wolf Lodge
If you’re a fan of savory over sweet, then maybe you won’t raise as big of a brow as most of the internet did at the news of Great Wolf Lodge’s latest dessert menu item. We won’t waste any time explaining because nothing we say could possibly prepare you for this: It’s a Ranch Milkshake. Yes, like the salad dressing. It’s topped with carrots, celery and chicken nuggets, so milkshake is a bit of a misnomer. It’s a whole meal.
Now at this point, it would be understandable if you were picturing just a big cup full of freezing cold ranch dressing. Thankfully, that’s not the case. The ranch sounds like more of a little addition for some extra personality rather than an entire Hidden Valley situation.
“The shake starts with a vanilla ice cream base, so it’s still sweet and creamy, while the ranch adds a tangy twist that creates a surprisingly delicious combination,” a representative of Great Wolf Lodge told Savor Nation. “Whether you want to sip it or even use it as a dip, it’s definitely a memorable menu item, and provides kids with a fun new way to eat their veggies!”
If you’re already there to spend a few days chasing kids up and down water slides amid shrieks and chlorine fumes, adding in a frozen salad dressing dessert won’t even come close to the weirdest thing you see on the trip. Honestly, bottoms up. And bring an extra side of chicken nuggets.
We aren’t the only ones somewhat confused on how to feel about this, um, confection. The comments on the chain’s Instagram page are definitely divided. “So who’s trying this first? I do love ranch, but want to see someone else drink this first,” said one skeptical customer. “Who told them it was a good idea to turn a condiment into a drink?” says another. “Can’t wait to see what this is all about!” exclaims one intrepid future ranch shake drinker, and honestly, we love her positive attitude. “I literally drink ranch as it is now, so I’m 100% here for this,” says another commenter, and truly, she’s not alone there. The ranch fans of the world are in for a treat.
“The Ranch Milkshake was inspired by the ever-growing popularity of ranch dressing over the years. We’ve noticed guests love to dip just about everything in ranch, from pizza to burgers to wings,” the representative tells Savor Nation. “So with National Ranch Day coming up, we wanted to take that enthusiasm and give ranch lovers a whole new and unexpected way to enjoy the condiment, and in a fun way the whole family can partake in.”
If a blend of frozen ranch dressing and vanilla ice cream topped with veggies and nuggets gets little guys to eat actual food, we won’t fault it. The new milkshake debuts on March 5 and will be on the chain’s spring menu until April 26, so if you have a trip planned in the coming weeks, you can try it and decide for yourself if ranch and vanilla is a somewhat unholy combination that somehow works — or a blend you’d prefer to only sip once.
