Starbucks new fall menu items

Starbucks’ new fall menu has $2.95 Mini Pies that double as drink toppers

We’re officially a week into fall, and the seasonal menus just keep getting better and better. Of course, Starbucks brought the Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) back earlier than usual, then came the Banana Bread Lattes (which we are now obsessed with), and a Peanuts-themed Bearista. Now they’re adding something else to the menu: miniature pies.

Everything you need to know about Starbucks’ Mini Pies

While we haven’t had a chance to try these little pastries ourselves, we did some snooping on Reddit to see what Starbucks baristas and customers had to say. Here’s the verdict:

  • Apple Crumble Mini Pie: According to the internet (and Redditors don’t lie), this miniature pie is a major hit. Apparently, it tastes even better topped with caramel drizzle and whipped cream. Just be patient if you order it during peak hours — baristas say it takes a full minute to warm up.
  • Pecan Mini Pie: Reviews for this one are a bit more mixed. While some fans love the inside, one barista warned that the filling is tasty, but the crust is “awful.” Others said it’s just not as sweet as they expected.
  • Pumpkin Mini Pie: If you order this, ask for it cold or at room temperature. Baristas across the board say that warming it up makes it way too mushy. It’s the only pie of the three that has to be kept in the refrigerator.

These fall-flavored treats are no doubt an exciting addition for customers, but baristas rate the execution a 4 out of 10 because the crusts are extremely delicate and crumble easily when dropped into pastry bags. Customers are also ordering all three flavors at once, which is slowing drive-thru warming times.

To wash down the pastries, Starbucks also released a brand-new iced espresso drink: the Aerocano. It’s essentially a modern spin on the Iced Americano, featuring air-whipped Blonde espresso poured over ice to create a light foam. The whipping process removes that bitter aftertaste that usually comes with a standard Americano (though some reviews suggest it can taste a bit watered down). If you like a robust coffee flavor, you might want to order a cold brew instead.
