Freddy's Frozen Custard expansion

This popular Midwest burger chain may be coming to a city near you

It’s hard to beat the age-old combo of a perfectly stacked smashburger and a hand-dipped milkshake. Crisp lacy edges dripping in fat from the griddle, piles of golden shoestring fries shoved into your mouth by the handful, followed by a sip of a cool, creamy shake loaded with your favorite mix-ins — in a word, it’s bliss. No matter what part of the country you’re in, whether you’re a tried-and-true New Yorker or you’ve never set foot across the Mason-Dixon, it’s an experience we can all relate to. And Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is betting on the fact that it’s a combo we can’t get enough of.

With so many places to get a great burger, we don’t always agree on which one is best. Some of us love Steak ‘n Shake, while others prefer the classic taste of Johnny Rockets. And then there are those who would much rather cruise to their nearest Freddy’s and grab a Prime Rib Steakburger with an Oreo Double Trouble Concrete. Of course, if you have no clue what Freddy’s even is, well, you’re in luck, because you might find out soon enough.

The relative newcomer on the block recently announced in a press release that it would be opening approximately 60 new locations across the country this year, which means Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers could be popping up in a city near you. Now nearing almost 600 locations, the Kansas-based burger chain, founded in 2002, has continued to maintain the same commitment to quality and genuine hospitality it had when it first started. Whether that means doubling down on the dirty soda trend with its new line of Freddy’s Bevies, or continuing to delight fans on its ongoing Summer Custard Tour, Freddy’s might just be the next big chain to watch.

While we don’t have a full list of cities getting a new Freddy’s location yet, a press release from the brand indicates a strong focus on areas in the Northeast, Rust Belt, Midwest, Pacific Northwest, Northern California and Florida. Freddy’s also notes that existing franchisees are the driving force behind the brand’s growth. According to the press release, approximately one-third of Freddy’s existing franchisees are planning to further expand into additional territories, which could be another clue as to where the brand is headed next.

“A strong franchise system is built on operators who see long-term opportunity within the brand,” said Andrew Thengvall, CDO of Freddy’s. “As Freddy’s continues to grow, we remain focused on supporting our franchisees through new restaurant prototypes, greater real estate flexibility, and development strategies that help position the brand for sustainable growth.”

Regardless of where they end up, it’s clear that Freddy’s is angling to be your next favorite burger joint. Or at least the place to get a concrete made just how you like it.
