Starbucks’ infamous Unicorn Frappuccino is coming back for two days only
Leave it to Starbucks to reheat its own nachos, but if everyone else is doing it, why can’t our favorite craft coffee chain? In true Starbucks fashion, though, instead of looking back as far as the ‘80s and ‘90s, Starbies is going back to 2017 to revive a more recent blast from the past: the Unicorn Frappuccino. That’s right, friends, the mythic and visually striking color- and flavor-changing blended beverage is making its dazzling worldwide return for a very limited time.
Much like the creature its namesake is derived from, this bold beverage is one of those things you have to see to (and taste) to believe. Unlike the typical muted, neutral colors associated with most of Starbucks’ beverages, the Unicorn Frapp turns the color and vibes all the way up to 11.

The drink is made by blending the brand’s creme frappuccino base with mango syrup and pink powder before pouring it into a cup lined with a sour blue swirl. It gets finished with whipped cream and a dusting of pink and blue sprinkles. If that sounds like it’s up your alley, then you can try it for yourself this weekend starting August 15. The only catch is that, just like a unicorn, if you blink, you’ll miss it because this iconic Starbucks creation will only be around for two days.
As an ex-Starbucks barista, this news is extremely triggering
Personally, as an ex-Starbucks barista who ushered in the Unicorn Frappuccino in 2017, I’ll be steering clear of Starbucks at least until Tuesday. Originally, the beverage was meant to be a week-long activation, but the supply that was supposed to last us a week or so vanished within hours.

It was complete and utter madness, but it appears Starbucks took a few notes and made some minor adjustments to ensure things go a little more smoothly this time around. In a press release, Starbucks said, “We’re ready to welcome customers with added support in coffeehouses to keep the magic flowing all weekend long.” It also noted that, unlike the previous rollout, you’ll only be able to get a Unicorn Frappuccino in a grande size “with limited customizations.” Starbucks also encouraged fans to get in on the fun by showing up in their own unicorn chic fashions.
All that being said, it’s highly likely that your local cafe will run out of ingredients before the weekend is over, so you might want to make a plan to stop in on Saturday if you can. Just remember, if and when they do, please be kind to your barista.
