Wendy’s trolls Chick-fil-A over Sunday closures at Atlanta stadium

Wendy’s marketing team, well known to be the spiciest restaurant social media presence, is back at it: This time doing some trash-talk outside Sunday’s Atlanta Falcons home game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The latest victim of Wendy’s trolling is fast-food chain Chick-fil-A, whom Wendy’s took a jab at on Sunday over the company’s “closed on Sundays” policy. The stadium, where the Atlanta Falcons typically play on Sundays, contains a Chick-fil-A — prompting Wendy’s to pull up on Sunday with a food truck advertising its “Tendy’s.” The truck even featured a sign reading, “Our Chikin Doesn’t Skip Gameday.”

When will the Dubai chocolate craze end?

Wendy’s punctuated the food truck run with an Instagram Reel containing captions reading, “Chick-fil-A inside the stadium: Closed. Wendy’s outside the stadium: Wide open.” The entire post was also captioned with a scathing statement: “We showed up for Atlanta even tho our opponent didn’t.”

But like Kendrick Lamar with Drake, Wendy’s didn’t stop there.

In follow-up Reels, Wendy’s showed the image of its own (also very petty) billboard outside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which reads, “Chikin Available Any Givin Sunday. Unlike the Chikin Spot in There.” Wendy’s then captioned the post to read, “Weird move putting a chick fil a in a stadium when the team plays on Sundays… Eat mor Wendy’s.”

Chick-fil-A’s Sunday closures have been in place since 1946, according to the company. Chick-Fil-A says founder S. Truett Cathy “saw the importance of closing on Sundays so that he and his employees could set aside one day to rest, enjoy time with their families and loved ones or worship if they choose, a practice we uphold today.”

Wendy’s kept the trolling going by flying a banner of its billboard phrase over the Atlanta stadium. “lol we got a plane,” reads the post.

In a statement to USA Today, Wendy’s said that football-goers “face the same problem every Sunday… Instead of watching fans go hungry during the season’s biggest moments, Wendy’s stepped up to deliver what the other guy wouldn’t.”

So far, Chick-fil-A has yet to respond to Wendy’s taunts.
