Guy Fieri thinks these holiday dishes are ‘overrated’

Don’t expect Guy Fieri to be bowled over by your Christmas desserts, no matter how “killer” they may be.

In a recent promotional video for “Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas” on Food Network, Fieri was asked to name the most “overrated” food on the holiday table. And surprisingly — especially for a man who lends his name to a Christmas-themed tower of “Trash Can Dessert Nachos” — he said he could do without all the sweet stuff.

“All the desserts,” Fieri said of the holiday dishes he thinks are overrated. “What is up with that?”

Fieri then offered his guidelines for anyone hosting Christmas dinner, telling them to focus their efforts on the savory side of things.

“You know what? Do a great job on your appetizers, do a fantastic job on your dinner, and then throw [your guests] a bar of chocolate,” he said.

Food Network has acknowledged in the past that Fieri “isn’t the biggest fan of desserts,” but it’s unlikely that he turns up his nose at the idea of desserts in general. He’s sampled plenty on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and periodically hosts a dessert-only version of “Guy’s Grocery Games.” In the current season of “Tournament of Champions,” he also tasks contestants with making both savory and sweet dishes in their quest to become the victor of his “All-Star Christmas” competition.

And — as previously mentioned — Fieri has also sanctioned not one but two versions of “Trash Can Dessert Nachos” available for sale online, advertising the can-crammed dessert as being straight “from Flavortown.”

More from Fieri, including his musings on holiday music and the real-vs.-fake Christmas tree debate, can be found in the “All-Star Christmas” promo video.
