It’s Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s: Where to get a free scoop

It’s that time of year again: Ben & Jerry’s is celebrating its Free Cone Day.

The tradition, which began in the late 1970s, is the company’s way of “saying THANK YOU for being the best fans ever,” according to the Ben & Jerry’s website.

This year, Free Cone Day is celebrated Tuesday, April 14, at participating shops between the hours of 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time.

“There’s no catch and no fine print — just visit your nearest Scoop Shop on April 14 and grab a free scoop of your favorite flavor on us,” the company says.

Ice cream fans can find their nearest participating Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shop at the Ben & Jerry’s website.

Tax Day food deals and freebies: White Castle, Krispy Kreme and more

Ben & Jerry’s held its first Free Cone Day in 1979, following its first year in business in Burlington, Vermont, according to the company. But it wasn’t until 1993 that all Scoop Shops in the U.S. participated.

In 2015, Ben & Jerry’s reported that it had given out more than 1 million scoops for that year’s celebration; the company’s current CEO is hoping to repeat the feat during the 2026 event.

“We want to hand out 1 million and one free scoops of ice cream across the globe to spread a little joy on the best unofficial holiday of the year!” CEO Jochanan Senf said.
