Nutella unveils new flavor for first time in 60 years

For the first time in 60 years, Nutella has officially announced a new flavor.

This week, Nutella unveiled “Nutella Peanut,” a new variety that blends the classic hazelnut spread with peanuts.

“Nutella Peanut delivers the same creamy experience fans know and love, now blended with the irresistible taste of roasted peanuts,” Noah Szporn, the senior vice president of spreads for Nutella maker Ferrero, was quoted as saying in a press release. “Our fans have been asking for this for years. We heard them, and afternoon snack time will never be the same.”

Ferrero, on Nutella Peanut’s product page, insists that Nutella Peanut is not simply “Nutella and peanut butter.” The product also still contains hazelnut among its ingredients, though seemingly less than the traditional version.

Nutella Peanut is said to be currently available in 13-ounce jars and 26.5-ounce twin packs.

The new flavor will be produced in Chicago at its plant in Franklin Park, the same location where Butterfinger and Baby Ruth candy bars are made.

“Opened in May 2024, this plant is a new 70,000 square foot facility, developed as part of our investment in manufacturing capacity to support our portfolio and continued geographic expansion,” a Ferrero spokesperson said.

The decision to make Nutella Peanut in a separate facility than original Nutella was made, in part, as a consideration to ensure “no cross contaminations” with peanut products, Ferrero added on its site.
