San Francisco’s latest dining trend? Adult Happy Meals

San Francisco’s ‘adult Happy Meals’ are drawing huge crowds

From grazing boards to “girl dinner” to snack plates, social media continues to prove that variety is often coveted over quantity. And it’s not just home cooks learning into the trend – restaurants are now crafting their own versions of girl dinner, sometimes branding it as adult Happy Meals.

Sometimes included as part of happy hour, these set menu offerings allow guests the opportunity to try a small portion of a selection of times for a lower price, which can make higher-end restaurants more accessible and help restaurants expand their customer base.

These 6 restaurants offer ‘girl dinner’ and adult Happy Meals

Holbrook House

This upscale, Gatsby-style bar and restaurant launched its Mini Meal in January, touted as “your new go-to for when you want ‘just enough.’” The “meal” – only available Monday to Friday from 4-6 p.m. – includes a mini burger, a duck fat hash brown with caviar and a full-size martini.

Holbrook House, 1 Sansome St., San Francisco; 415-515-6444, Instagram: @holbrookhousesf. Open Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Wednesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

JOEY

While not in San Francisco, restaurant chain JOEY has a location in Santa Clara, and it offers Adult Snack Packs during happy hour (Monday to Thursday from 3-6 p.m.). Launched last summer, these snack packs pair alcoholic beverages with food. For example, guests can order chicken tenders with a glass of Segura Brut for $19, truffle fries and an espresso martini for $20-$29, or a sushi cone with your choice of Hugo, Aperol or rosé spritz for $22.

JOEY, 2855 Stevens Creek Blvd., Suite 1840, Santa Clara; 669-899-5639, Instagram: @joeyrestaurants. Open Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Little Original Joe’s

(Little Original Joe’s)

A spinoff of Original Joe’s, Little Original Joe’s offers elevated takes on Italian classics. Its full-service location in the Marina District has offered an LOJ Happy Meal during lunch since February 2025. For $24, guests can get a petit chicken Caesar salad, French fries and a Diet Coke. For an extra $12, guests can add a glass of wine or a house martini (vodka or gin).

“At Little Original Joe’s, we’re always listening to our guests, and when a ‘regular order’ starts becoming everyone’s order, we take it seriously,” Elena Duggan, co-owner of Little Original Joe’s, told SavorNation in an email interview. “What started as a guest favorite quickly became one of our most popular lunch requests, so making it official felt like a no-brainer.”

Little Original Joe’s, 2301 Chestnut St., San Francisco; 415-712-1895, Instagram: @littleoriginaljoes. Open Sunday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

What is ‘boy kibble,’ TikTok’s newest meal trend?

Roka Akor

The high-end Japanese restaurant chain launched its “Girl Dinner” in 2024, jumping on the girl dinner trend that began in 2023 on social media. Roka Akor’s version of girl dinner is quite a departure from the low-effort meal of bread, cheese, grapes and pickles that started the trend – it’s a Roka signature martini (gin or vodka), side of truffle fries and two oysters for $25, available Monday to Friday from 4:30-6 p.m. and Saturday from 5-6:30 p.m.

Roka Akor, 801 Montgomery St., San Francisco; 415-362-8887, Instagram: @rokakaor_sf. Open Monday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30-9 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30-9:30 p.m., Saturday from 5-9:30 p.m. and Sunday from 5-9 p.m.

The Brixton

The Brixton, an upscale American gastropub in Cow Hollow, claims to be the first restaurant in the city to offer girl dinner. Available Wednesdays from 4-10 p.m., girl dinner at The Brixton includes three options: a martini with fries ($20), a martini and kale Caesar salad ($26), or a martini and wagyu burger with no bun ($29).

The Brixton, 2140 Union St., San Francisco; 415-409-1114, Instagram: @brixtonsf. Open Tuesday and Wednesday from 4-10 p.m., Thursday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Willows

A departure from the high-end restaurants on this list, The Willows is a casual gastropub. It offers a Drunk & Happy Meal for $29.95 that pairs a cheeseburger (made with wagyu beef, American cheese, diced onions, pickles and Thousand Island dressing) with Tecate beer and a shot of whiskey or tequila.

The Willows, 1582 Folsom St., San Francisco; 415-226-7768, Instagram: @thewillowssf. Open Monday to Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m., Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to midnight.
