This recipe calls for orange liqueur, but if you don’t want to use alcohol, you can substitute it for orange syrup. Chatfield recommends pairing strawberries Romanoff with a glass of Champagne.

Wash and quarter the strawberries.

Zest the orange and mince fine. Juice the orange.

Combine the orange juice, zest, liqueur and 1/4 cup powdered sugar. Let macerate for 30 minutes.

Whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract with a whip attachment to soft peaks.

Add the remaining powdered sugar and sour cream, and continue to whip to firm peaks. Do not make butter.

In a wine glass or pretty serving dish, spoon the strawberry mixture, and top with the whipped topping. Garnish with fresh mint or herbs.
