Sure, you could get your ranch dressing from a bottle, but you’re missing out if you aren’t making your own from (almost) scratch.
JJ Nelson, of Nelson’s Barnyard Buffet in Saraland, Alabama, recently visited Nexstar’s WKRG studios to share his family’s in-house recipe for buttermilk ranch, the perfect topping for salads, veggies, wings, pizza or any of the dozens of things people like to slather in the stuff.
“We’re very proud of our buttermilk ranch,” Nelson told WKRG.
Buttermilk ranch dressing
Yield: About 1½ cups of dressing. Prep time: 5 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon chopped dill
- ½ teaspoon chopped parsley
- ½ teaspoon chopped chives
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 pinch black pepper
Directions
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Stir until combined.
- Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
