About this recipe

America’s 250th is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than with burgers inspired by the colors of the American flag?

These patriotic burgers are made with blue cheese-infused beef patties, white onions, white buns and red tomatoes. If you don’t like blue cheese, you can use Swiss cheese or white cheddar.

When making the burger patty, gently combine the ground beef, blue cheese and steak seasoning, and be careful not to overwork the mixture. After forming the mixture into patties, use your thumb to push and indent the middle of the patty to help them cook evenly, as they tend to plump up. Make sure to cook the patties to 160 degrees.

“If you want a juicy burger that’s going to still have juice and flavor in it, go 80/20 or even 85/15. If you go a little learner, you can, but you definitely want to add some breadcrumbs and egg to make it a little more palatable,” Jacob Schmidt said.

Serve these burgers with ketchup, mustard, mayo and pickles. For easy customization, create a toppings bar so all of your guests can make their burgers exactly how they like them.
