Protein is everywhere right now, and if you’re tired of eating chicken to hit your protein goals, how about protein cookies? Amber Grapevine, registered dietician with Cooper Clinic shares a quick, make-ahead protein snack the whole family will love.
“We’re making protein bites, which are a great snack, you can grab and go for breakfast, they’re easy after workouts or a sweet treat,” Grapevine said.
This recipe makes a dozen cookies, and each cookie is just 147 calories with a whopping 5 grams of protein.
“You’re getting protein, you’re getting fiber from the oats, some good beta-glucans which help your gut health,” Grapevine said.

Cookies are better with chocolate, and protein cookies are no exception – just be sure to use dark chocolate.
“Dark chocolate is lower sugar than milk chocolate,” Grapevine said. “You’re getting some minerals, you’re getting some antioxidants. It’s going to help brain and heart health.”
These gluten-free protein cookies have a variety of benefits: Protein supports bones and muscles and keeps us full during the day. Oats are rich in fiber and support heart health by combating bad cholesterol.

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, applesauce and protein powder.

Gradually beat the egg whites into the butter mixture until incorporated.

Add almond flour, oats, salt, vanilla or almond extract and baking soda, then mix until combined.

Fold in the dark chocolate chips.
TIP: Dark chocolate provides antioxidants and contains less sugar than milk chocolate.

Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on a non-stick baking sheet.

Bake for 12–15 minutes until the cookies rise and the edges are lightly browned.
TIP: Allow cookies to cool slightly before serving.
